ScottishPower Renewables British Pipe Band Championships Leave Annan on a High Note.

The ScottishPower Renewables British Pipe Band Championships took place for the third and final time in the town with the Academy playing fields, completely transformed by marquees, trade stands and thousands of pipers.

The Elite Grade 1 Championship was won by the hot favourites, Field Marshal Montgomery, who are currently unstoppable in the world of piping.

More than 3000 spectators turned out to take in the music. A high quality craft fair, free sporting activities, an on-site café and dozens of trade stands were additional attractions to add to the day's entertainment.. The Grand March Past was a momentous sight with around 2,900 pipers and drummers saluting and playing for the Chieftain..

Councillor Ian Carruthers, Chair of the planning group said, "The Council is delighted that major events in our area prove so popular, and that so many people travelled to Annan to participate in and spectate at the British Pipe Band Championships. We are privileged to have hosted this event for the period 2010-2012."

Ian Embelton, Chief Executive of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association said, "We had a great championships and we will continue to support piping development in Dumfries and Galloway to build upon the success of this event ."

John Alexander, Project Director with ScottishPower Renewables and the Event Chieftain said, "It was a fantastic day and and a great showcase of outstanding piping talent from across the UK. ScottishPower Renewables was proud to sponsor the Championships and and we would like to thank all the bands and musicians who took part, as well as all of the organisers, for putting on a great show."

The 2013 British Championships will take place in Bathgate.
